What is a Vacuum-Fit Suction Wig?
Sometimes referred to as hair prostheses, vacuum-fit suction wigs are made by trained designers who specialize in hair loss. The wig designer first makes a thin silicone mold that is customized to fit the exact shape, hairline and curve of the client’s scalp. The designer then crafts the wig from donated human hair, which is implanted into the silicone base one strand at a time. When the cap of the wig is placed securely on the head, all of the air is removed and a vacuum seal is created.
In order to achieve a secure fit, the client will need to have either total natural hair loss or a clean-shaven head.
No Adhesive Required
Unlike most wigs, vacuum fit suction wigs don’t require tape, glue or similar adhesive. The wig will not move or come off unless the vacuum seal is intentionally broken. To release the vacuum seal, the client places his or her fingers under the edge of the wig’s base to create a space and let air in.
“Acts” Like Natural Hair
Because vacuum-fit suction wigs are made from unprocessed human hair, they can often be treated in the same way. The client can have his or her wig professionally colored, and it can be worn in various styles, such as with clips, in an up-do or braided. The part, too, can be altered to the client’s liking. Because the silicone base is tinted to match the person’s skin color, these wigs provide the appearance of a natural scalp.
Made for Regular Wearability
Suction wigs can be worn in the shower and occasionally shampooed and conditioned like natural hair. The security of the vacuum fit also allows individuals to participate in a range of physical activities such as swimming and running. If treated well, they may last for three to five years.
Given their security, durability and natural appearance, vacuum-fit suction wigs may be the ideal choice for individuals with total hair loss looking for a quality, comfortable replacement option.
